Reflection is configured to function as an IBM model 3287 printer. When emulating a 3270 printer, Reflection uses the 3270 Telnet Extended protocol to connect to a host. When an application on the host prints to the device name to which Reflection is connected, the host passes data to Reflection as if it were a printer, and Reflection sends the data to a local or network printer.
Status messages are displayed in the center of the printer panel and provide additional information indicating the current status of printing.
Your administrator may have configured the IBM 3270 printer applet to connect automatically as soon as you load the relevant web page. But if not, follow these instructions to connect to a host using a Reflection IBM 3270 Printer session:
- On the Connection menu, click Connection
Setup to open the Connection Setup dialog box. This command is not available if it is
disabled in the profile associated with this session.
If you see no menus at all, try clicking
in the applet with your right mouse button; a shortcut menu will appear if
your system administrator has enabled this feature.
- Enter the name of the host to which you're connecting in the Host box. You can also enter a valid Internet address (such
as 100.01.02.03) or a name that a domain name server can resolve.
- Confirm that the Connection type is Connect and enter the LU name in the Host LU name box. This is the host device name that 3270 clients can use to print from your host to your local printer.
After connecting to the host, configure your 3270 terminal session to print
to the host device name that corresponds to the name specified above. In VM/ESA,
you can associate your session to a 3270 printer by using the command TAG
DEV PRT
device name, where device name is the host LU name
specified in step 3 above.
