There may be times when you want to print a document to a file rather than a printer. You might want to:
- Print at a later time
- Print at another location
- Merge print files together to create one document for printing
There are two ways to print to a disk file: one from within Reflection and one from within your OS.
Printing to a File from Reflection
You can direct printer output to a file in Reflection using the following method:
- On the File menu, click Print Setup.
- In the Print Setup dialog box, select the Send output to file check
box.
- In the File name field, enter a new file name, or click Browse to select an existing file. Enter, for example,
printjobs.txt
. Click OK. Note the existing location for the file in the File name field. To change that path, click Browse, navigate to a new location, and then click OK.
Printing to a File using Windows
- Click Settings on the Start menu and then click Printers.
- Click the icon for the printer you are using.
- On the File menu, click Properties.
- Click the Ports tab, and then change the designated port to FILE, under Print to the following port.
Each time you print, the Windows Print Manager prompts you for a file name. When the print job is through, the file is closed. If you are appending to a file, the file is reopened.
